Six (6) primary school pupils of the Blema Primary school in the Savannah Region have been put in the family way by some unscrupulous men who seem hell-bent on increasing the number of teenage pregnancies in the Sawla Tuna-Kalba District.

In a worrying trend of an increase in teenage pregnancies and school dropout rates, one other girl in the Blema Junior High School form one has also been impregnated, bringing the total to seven confirmed cases of pregnancy

Beyond teenage pregnancy cases, sources within the schools indicate that the schools are faced with myriad of other problems such as inadequate teaching and learning materials and human resources, lack of furniture, a dilapidated school building, forcing pupils to learn under trees, among other

Teenage pregnancy cases have assumed a troubling increase in the area even though modest efforts continue to be made by the school authorities to reverse the trend.

Some residents of the area have blamed the unfortunate increase in teenage pregnancies on poverty and the tendency of headless men to take advantage of vulnerable school pupils in the area because such men tend to go scot-free.

Others have argued that when the terrible nature of the school, which has made school attendance unattractive leading to pupil absenteeism may help to deal with the issue of teenage pregnancy.
