The great Bo Bennett defined success with the following words; “Success is not in what you have but who you are.” – and little did he know that the veracity of this enlightening statement will be embodied in a young man by name of Evans Adjei Ashong. Captured in this brief write-up is the biography of Evans – that seeks to highlight his stupendous academic achievements and consequently providing meaning to the above quotation.

Evans is a young Ghanaian man who started his primary education in Lincoln International School in Teshie, a suburb of Accra, Ghana. He then went on to Kalvary International School, also located in Teshie, for his Junior Secondary School education – and upon completion, was admitted to Adisadel College, a premier Secondary High School institution. He graduated from Adisadel College in 2003 before proceeding onward to the University of Ghana, Legon. At the University of Ghana, Evans graduated on top of his class as the valedictorian of the 2010 graduating class. With this impressive feat, one would think he would rest on his laurels by being overconfident. No! – not Evans! As he’s proven time and again, Evans has displayed again – an astounding academic excellence studying a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems at the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) – where he graduated in December 2019 with an impressive 4.0 GPA.

During his time of study at Middle Tennessee State University, Evans served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant where he developed several formulaic expressions within both mathematics and database classes, which was necessary in aiding students in arriving at solutions pertinent to challenging questions in their studies. With a 100% average in most of his 13 courses, he was tasked by his peers to develop a book with the objective of guiding students in their pursuit of academic success. This presented him with an opportunity to assist students who were having challenges with their studies, thereby changing lives in the process.

With his impeccable academic record came a multitude of awards and scholarships including the Golden Key International Scholarship Award; an award offered to exceptional members of the Golden Key – of which Evans was the only recipient that year. The Golden Key International Honor Society that offers the Golden Key International Scholarship Award is a non-profit organization founded in 1977, which seeks to recognize academic achievements among college and university students. Membership into the Golden Key is offered only to the top 15% of their class, based on their GPA. Evans later went on to serve as the New Member Engagement Director of the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Evans also received the Ambassador Award for Computer Information Systems where he represented his Department due to his academic scholarship – and an extended invitation to join the Beta Gamma Sigma. The Beta Gamma Sigma is an elite group with a restriction cap that accepts only the top 10% of undergraduates and the top 20% of Post Graduate candidates at the World’s most prestigious AACSB accredited business schools.

Additionally, Evans’ excellent record led to him being used as a standard for intelligence by one of his Professors, who coined the term “smart like Evans.” This description became a regular term whenever a difficult-to-grasp topic was taught in class. The Professor would often say; “if you are smart like Evans, this would be easy for you.” That phrase eventually became popular amongst his colleagues.

The culmination of Evans’ academic excellence can be fully emphasized when he was offered a dream many would love to have; an exemption from writing the final paper for his Software Development class.
