VGMA AND 3MUSIC AWARDS ARE CORRUPT-BLAKK RASTA

Abubakar Ahmed ,a Ghanaian reggae and “kuchoko” musician cum radio journalist popular known as Blakk Rasta has said that all ghanaian award schemes including the VGMA and 3MUSIC Awards are corrupt and fraudulent.

The singer best known for his hit single ‘Barack Obama’,a song sung in honor of the 44th United States President,said this in an interview with ace broadcaster Abeiku Santana.

The singer known for his controversial takes and backlash at the current government of Ghana this time around directed his takes at award schemes,The act said growing up as a young musician he was also hungry for awards .

“ you see Abeiku ,when we started coming up we all were enthused and hungry to get awarded by these platforms”

He went on to say as he’s matured in the industry now he thinks the mechanisms of award schemes are fraudulent and an avenue that breeds corruption rather than award success of artists.

“Which award scheme do you have to vote for over a million times before you are acknowledged?what are they awarding?” Abeiku Santana went on to ask him if that’s not the normal mechanism of award schemes in the country.
“It is the mechanism of thievery,fraud ,bribery and corruption”.Black Rasta said.

This backlash from Black Rasta comes days after the VGMA held an occasion to announce nominations of artists for its 23rd edition. Asked if his backlash is directed at a single award scheme,the artist said his backlash is directed at all award shows.

To him award shows honoring the work of artists or people shouldn’t be based on voting mechanism.Black Rasta was honored by Barack Obama for a dinner after his song which celebrated the former USA president ,an honor only he is privy to as a Ghanaian musician.A video excerpt of his interview with Abeiku Santana is below.
