Meet Opapy Joe The Journalist Changing The status-quo in Western Region.
When it became obvious that the Tarkwa na Aboso Sports Stadium was earmarked to be commissioned on the 16th of August 2024, people were skeptical about who would host the event.
Plenty of names came up in the circles of the Ghanaian media space especially that of the Western Region.
For a branded company like Goldfields Ghana Limited to have a host to manage the commissioning of such an edifice as a 10,400 capacity roof-top sports stadium which cost around $16.2M, it was certain that it’ll go for a national MC to match such an event.
The program was in two sessions with the first part being the Durbar which was the official handing-over ceremony.
The second part had music performers like legendary Reggae/Dancehall artist Samini and music sensation Peter Fameye.
The name that came up as the MC for the second session of the commissioning was none other than Joseph Kwarteng Frimpong popularly known in the media space as Opapy Joe. After thorough scrutiny, it became clear that Goldfields Ghana Limited did not want to meddle with such an event that had taken a national stage and opted to go in for Opapy Joe.
Opapy Joe has been a Goldfields Ghana Limited worker with the mining company’s engineering department (Technical Service) since 2010.
He is currently the host of Entertainment Xtra on Space FM 87.7MHz, Tarkwa, and also serves as the chairman of the Tarkwa Media Association.
